Comparative study of commercial disinfectants (Lizol, Dettol, Harpic) and medicinal plant extracts (ginger, turmeric, neem) shows stronger antimicrobial activity for commercial products, while ginger-based extracts demonstrate notable inhibition, indicating potential eco-friendly alternatives.
Amyloid aggregation, central to neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and Huntington’s, involves complex pathway-dependent processes including oligomer formation and fibril polymorphism. Recent experimental and computational advances enable mechanistic insight and support sustainable therapeutic strategies that modulate aggregation pathways rather than simply inhibiting fibril formation.
First systematic investigation of quercetin–functionalised graphene interactions shows that FG surface chemistry, oxygen content, and structural order govern photoluminescence enhancement or quenching. Findings highlight FG as a tunable platform for stabilising flavonoids in nanomedicine applications.
Photoluminescence reveals dual enol–keto emission of Naringenin with progressive quenching upon interaction with functionalised graphene. π–π stacking and hydrogen bonding enable stable complex formation, highlighting FG as a potential nanocarrier.

Dr. Barun Das
Dr. Barun Das is an expert in the research domain of Advanced Materials and Nano-Science Research & Development; with more than 18 years of research experience in academia as well as industry. He is currently an Assistant Professor at the Centre for Interdisciplinary Sciences, JIS Institute of Advanced Studies & Research, Kolkata, since August 2023. Previously, he held various teaching positions at prominent institutions and served also as an R&D Scientist at Macdermid Alpha Electronic Solutions in Bangalore for almost 8 years. Dr. Das completed his M.S and Ph.D at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore, under the supervision of Prof. C.N.R Rao. His research focuses on Graphene, Noble Metal nanoparticles & different allied functional martials. During his research career in academia and industry, he has published several internal journals with an average citation of 150 per publication and also holds 5 patents as co-inventor. He is a lifetime member of the Indian Science Congress Association.
